Support Primary Stages

For more than 22 years, Primary Stages has produced daring new works by emerging and established playwrights. Known for its artistic integrity and commitment to the playwright's vision, Primary Stages has become a creative home for established playwrights like A.R. Gurney, Horton Foote, and Willy Holtzman, and emerging new voices such as Julia Jordan, Brooke Berman, and Michael Hollinger.

Terrence McNally's Stendhal Syndrome, David Ives' All In The Timing , Stephen Belber's One Million Butterflies, Julia Jordan's Boy, Danai Gurira and Nikkole Salter's In The Continuum, and A.R. Gurney's Indian Blood are among the many plays that received their world premiere at Primary Stages. Recognized for the artistic excellence of its work, Primary Stages has received numerous theater and literary awards and nominations.

While Primary Stages subscriber base has grown more than 300% to 3,000 individuals, since our move to the east side of Manhattan and single ticket sales have dramatically increased since our 2004 move to 59E59 Theaters, we still must raise more than 50% of our operating budget each year from philanthropic resources.

With this in mind, please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to Primary Stages today. Your gift will provide essential support as Primary Stages continues to:

  • Produce exciting new plays by up-and-coming as well as prominent playwrights;
  • Nurture the creative vision of writers through commissions, workshops and our weekly PrimeTime Reading Series;
  • Foster the development of new plays through our artist development program, The Dorothy Strelsin New American Writers Group, now in its 12 th year; and
  • Introduce New York City public high school students to the theater through our free Student Matinee Series and Primary Voices program, where students create a video documentary about their experience of attending one of our shows.

To join our PRIMARY PARTNERS patron program which offers an array of benefits ranging from prime seats for our productions to invitations to exclusive events with our artists, please call Erica Raven or Lindsay Hahnes at 212.840.9705.
